HOWARD J. ATLAS, J.D., CELA
HOWARD J. ATLAS, J.D., CELA, earned his law degree from the Albany Law School of Union University in 1986 and devotes his practice to Elder Law, Estate Planning and Estate Administration. Mr. Atlas is one of only 500 attorneys in the United States who is certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. Mr. Atlas has also had the distinction of being selected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA). Mr. Atlas has served as Vice President and Secretary of NAELA, and served a four-year term on the NAELA Board of Directors. Mr. Atlas has also served as Chair of the NAELA Publications Committee, Editor of the NAELA News and is a past Chair of the NAELA Advanced Elder Law Institute. Howard has authored articles for the “Elder Law Report,” “NAELA News,” “NAELA Quarterly,” “Senior News” and the New York State Bar Association publication the “Elder Law Attorney.”
Mr. Atlas frequently lectures on Elder Law and Estate Planning to professional and community organizations and has addressed both radio and cable television audiences including CNBC and NEWS 12 LONG ISLAND. He has lectured at numerous NAELA and New York Bar Association meetings, and has been featured in such publications as NEWSDAY, MONEY MAGAZINE, KIPLINGER’S, NATIONAL LAW JOURNAL, AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION JOURNAL and USA TODAY.
Mr. Atlas is a member of the Elder Law Committee of the Suffolk County Bar Association; The Trusts and Estates Law and Elder Law Sections of the New York State Bar Association; and Real Property and Probate Trust Section of the American Bar Association.
ROBIN S. MESSINGER, ESQ.
Robin Messinger graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in General Business and Finance. She earned her law degree from New York Law School in 1995. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Messinger worked on the fiduciary banking side of Estate Administration and Planning while employed by J.P. Morgan Chase and Brown Brothers Harriman.
Ms. Messinger joined our law firm in 2007 and is now the Associate Attorney who heads up our Estate and Trust Administration Department, assisting our clients with probate proceedings before the Surrogate courts and advising our clients as to their fiduciary responsibilities as Executors and Trustees.
Ms. Messinger is admitted to the New York and New Jersey State Bars.
LEIGH-ANNE AMORE, ESQ.
Leigh-Anne Amore graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science. She earned her law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2011. During law school, she participated in an Elder Law Clinic and found her experience to be very rewarding. She feels very fortunate and excited to begin her career as an attorney in this field. Ms. Amore joined our law firm as an Associate Attorney in 2013.
Ms. Amore is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association Elder Law and Estates and Trusts Committees, the New York State Bar Association Elder Law Committee, and Columbian Lawyers Association of Nassau County.
Ms. Amore is admitted to the New York and New Jersey State Bars.
Diane Anziano - Legal Assistant
Prior to joining our law firm, Diane previously handled Administrative Fair Hearings for Medicaid denials and training in Medicaid regulations at a collection agency. She was promoted to a role in Client Services and Client Development and was later returned to the Medicaid department as a manager at the same agency where she worked for 18 years. In August, 2008, Diane brought her knowledge and experience to our law firm where she primarily assists our attorneys with scheduling and drafting of legal documents as well as the overall administration of the law office.
Lynn Mandaro - Legal Assistant
Lynn graduated from Nassau Community College with a Paralegal degree. She has worked in the Medicaid field for the past twenty five years. From 1998 through 2001, Lynn was the Medicaid coordinator for a 672 bed skilled nursing home facility located in Nassau County. During that time, Lynn enhanced her skills by attending enrichment programs offered from NYC Human Resource Administration and the Suffolk County Nursing Home Waiver Worker Program. In 2001, Lynn brought her expertise to our law firm and is part of the Medicaid team responsible for assisting our clients with the preparation and submission of Medicaid Home Care and Nursing Home applications.
Karen Eschbach - Legal Assistant
After working for two years in litigation, Karen worked in the Medicaid department of a large law firm for ten years, handling Administrative Fair Hearings for Medicaid denials, preparation of cases for persons in need of a guardian, as well as preparing training manuals and conducting Medicaid training seminars within her department. Thereafter she worked for seven years at the North Shore - Long Island Jewish Health System working closely with the Social Work department to obtain Medicaid eligibility to assist with discharge planning for patients in need of home care or nursing home placement. In 2002, Karen brought her knowledge and experience to our law firm and is part of the Medicaid team responsible for assisting our clients in the preparation and submission of Medicaid Home Care and Nursing Home applications.
Mary Kanetis - Legal Assistant
Mary graduated from Katherine Gibbs School and has been working as a legal assistant since 1987. Mary has been a member of our law firm since its inception in February 1999 and works primarily drafting estate planning and elder law documents such as Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney, Health Care Proxies and Deeds. She assists the attorneys in all aspects of office procedures and acts as the primary liaison between the attorneys and our Elder Law and Estate Planning clients.
Alecia Schildt - Legal Assistant
Alecia began her career working as a legal assistant for an Elder Law attorney in 1999. She took a special interest in Medicaid and chose to broaden her skills by accepting a position as the Medicaid Coordinator for a Long Island nursing facility. She successfully established a Medicaid Unit dedicated to assisting current and future residents and their families in obtaining Medicaid eligibility. She also obtained certification as a Suffolk County Waiver worker. She later relocated to Nevada where she continued to pursue the same goals in a nursing facility for the next eight years. In 2013, Alecia brought her knowledge and experience to our law firm and is part of the Medicaid team responsible for assisting our clients in the preparation and submission of Medicaid Home Care and Nursing Home applications.
